I didn't see any merged characters from the present, past, or future. Not yet that I've recently re-watched Old Boy, and then tackled Mr. Vengeance, it was time to take on Lady Vengeance to put this whole Vengeance thing to read that Park gave a press interview when Old Boy was going into production, and was pelted by the reporters about why was he making another vengeance’ film which is weird ... isn't every Korean film either about vengeance or romance, or romance and vengeance? , but I digress, apparently he was annoyed by the question… so he saved the best in this trilogy for last huh lgbtq community Park Chan-wook no Park Chan-wook lgbtq community get behind me lgbtq community Park Chan-wook please-[gunshot]the entire lgbtq community PARK CHAN-WOOK!!!!!!! *geum-ja takes off her red eyeshadows and put some lipstick on* me this is cinema women plotting and taking revenge against men who framed them while looking good at the same time is a movie made for me The scene with the tapes is so fucking atrocious the first half is so complex and somewhat confusing compared to the very linear second half, and the structure of this film was not at all what i was expecting given the first two films in the vengeance trilogy. the storytelling is a lot less suspense/mystery-oriented. feel like i set myself up for failure expecting another film like the first two, but despite that i still really enjoyed it! that second half is fucking great; his ideas about the lingering disruption of vengeance are still on display here in a much more emotional/less physical way, which makes sense since this is the sole film where the vengeance is unidirectional. i like park chan-wook! i'm excited to finish out his filmography eventually, hopefully getting to enjoy them without preconceived notions of what they "should" be, like this one. like to see 'em try and beat the mf handmaiden though.... park chan-wook doesn’t have to go off so hard but he does and he does it for us ! Park Chan-wook's Lady Vengeance is an immaculately framed, incredibly gripping psychological thriller. It is a bleak and gory film, but less unrelentingly disturbing than the other films in Park's Vengeance Trilogy. This is a film where Park is at the height of his powers, using complex plotting and an incredible style to tell his perverse tale. With a bright, contrasting colour scheme primary colours at first, more black and white later on, and imaginative transitions, Lady Vengeance looks amazing. The score too is fantastic, one of the best soundtracks of the 2000s, and it provides an evocative sense of melancholy whilst tinged with elements of celebratory symphonies. Lady Vengeance is an intense and cold movie, but it's smothered by a warm… It’s like if Bong Joon Ho and David Fincher had a baby and that baby remade an Otto Preminger movie? It honestly took me a while to get oriented in the story, there’s a lot of characters that come up in the first 30 minutes and many of them are relatively insignificant, however a great performance by Lee Young-ae makes it ever fascinating. While this is my least favorite of the Chan Wook Park movies I’ve seen, that’s not saying much as The Handmaiden and Oldboy are all-timers for movies tend to be a very external story as you have a single-minded character who will stop at nothing to reach their goal. Having a character question whether to forgive… Mentioned bySympathy for Mr. Vengeance" (playing as part of the Park Chan Wook Retrospective I'm hosting on March 9 at 4:00pm at Reading's Town Square Cinemas) was the first of Park Chan-wook's

Full Review Original Score C+ Apr 15, 2009 The kind of glorious sensory rush that you can only get when a supremely confident director fully kicks out the jams. Submerged within the flash, however, is a nihilistic worldview that may be even more curdled than its predecessors.
